Nürnberg Airport (NUE) is by far the closest airport to Erlangen. From there take underground line "U2" to Nürnberg central station and change there to the local train "S1" in direction Bamberg/Forchheim or any "Regionalexpress (RE)" that runs via Erlangen. Travel time from Nürnberg Airport to Erlangen with public transportation is about 35-60 minutes. A taxi from Nürnberg Airport to Erlangen city (conference venue and hotels) takes about 20-30 minutes and costs about 30-35 Euros.
You can also fly to Munich Airport (MUC) . From there take the local train "S-Bahn" to Munich central station. From Munich central station take the ICE high-speed train either directly to Erlangen (approx. every 2h ) or take the ICE to/via Nürnberg (approx. every 30 minutes) and from there the local train "S-Bahn" or "Regionalexpress" to/via Erlangen (every 20 to 30 min). Another alternative is Frankfurt Airport (FRA) . From Frankfurt Airport you can take the ICE high-speed-train to Nürnberg or Würzburg and change there to local train to Erlangen. When leaving the train station walk straight ahead to "Hugenottenplatz", there turn left and go to "Schlossplatz" where the conference venue is located (walking time approx. 5 min).
Follow motorway A73 Nürnberg-Bamberg to exit "Erlangen-Zentrum" and follow the signs to the large area car park ("Grossparkplatz" in German) located at the backside of the train station. If you use turn-by-turn navigation enter "Parkplatzstrasse" as your destination. Walk right through the train station and straight ahead to "Hugenottenplatz", there turn left and go to "Schlossplatz" where the conference venue is located (walking time approx. 5 min).
The ICE high-speed train stops at Erlangen station roughly every 2 hours, but you might get a better connection if you take the ICE to Nürnberg and change there to the local train ("S-Bahn" or "Regionalexpress") which runs approximately every 20-30 minutes. The station is announced simply as "Erlangen" (i.e. when using the "S-Bahn" do NOT confuse with "Erlangen-Bruck" which is a different station in a suburb).
